Weather
Today

Another sucko day in paradise!

Yesterday was 74 and gorgeous, today promises to be the same.

Supposed to be suspect tomorrow, but even if true will not bring much rain. The rest of the next week plus is dry and sunny.

"I'm prepared to declare 1999 the best vintage of the year."
Steve Doerner, Winemaker, Cristom.

Harvest  1999  October 13, 1999

Claire Mulholland on 8-ton pinot noir fermentor
A day of hiatus picking. We filled two new 8-ton pinot noir fermentors Monday and Tuesday. That makes a total of 69 tons in of approximately 200 for the year.

Most people in the valley are indulging themselves by packing on some more sugar and hangtime, with grapes in great shape except for a little yellowjacket juice-sucking and minor bird breakfasts on the vineyard perimeters.

Brodsky overseeing harvest activity

We have a cannon waking neighbors in the morning and some recorded "birds in distress" speakers randomly playing in the vineyard--Brodsky gets very excited when he hears small creatures yelling "help" and races over expecting to help. Oh my, this is beginning to sound like a TV wildlife documentary.

Clouds in the sky
Going to sample the last grapes at Stoller and determine the first harvest at Ridgecrest. Our rental truck and loader are in place and the fermentors are ready.

Tomorrow.
