Ridgecrest | Stoller | Corral Creek
Stoller Vineyards is our newest, and therefore most viticulturally
advanced, of our three estate vineyards. A south-sloping, 176-acre
vineyard on a 373-acre parcel, Stoller Vineyards commands a dominating
view of the southern end of the Red Hills of Dundee, giving it
regular comparison to Burgundy's Corton Hill.
Stoller Vineyards is planted to jory soil, with a touch of Nekia, which are both red volcanic soil types. Jory is moderate to deep in soil depth and water retention, with moderate to rich fertility. There are some excess trace elements due to prior use as a turkey farm, requiring some adjustment by chemical drip irrigation. A warm site, it is early ripening and, with dense plantings, requires irrigation.
Wine
characteristics in Pinot noir for Jory and Nekia soils are straight-down-the-middle
red to black cherry fruits with round, soft flavors, very much
in a Volnay or Pommard style, with intense offerings bordering
on earth and chocolate overtones. Our first commercial release
from Stoller Vineyards was in 1997.
They are christening a small, exclusive winery on their estate in 2005 to make small amounts of a Stoller Vineyards brand Pinot noir and Chardonnay.
